I suppose it's possible the iOS version does this as well, it's just not as easy to see network activity on iOS. Other operating systems: The latest Skype version from 2023 is also available for Android, Mac and iPhone. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. Oddly, there doesn't seem to be any settings to limit the amount of message history stored without just deleting the entire chat, which is kind of ridiculous as well. Skype can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. The best guess I've got is that it periodically decides to sync the entire years-long chat history, or maybe to refresh all of the web previews. It is completely baffling to me how it manages to do this or why. It's not constantly downloading it'll sit there quietly for long periods then suddenly max out the internet connection until it's downloaded hundreds of MB of. After a few days of monitoring, it had racked up well over 2GB of network download, with nothing but the single chat sitting open in the background. I've discovered that Skype, of all things, seems to be the worst culprit by far. I've been on a very slow internet connection (~0.25% of what I'm used to) while traveling, so have been sensitive to things doing a bunch of network transfer in the background that I normally just don't notice. No calling, no video, just text chat with a handful of images and an occasional link. Linux: Skype for Linux version 8.106.0.212 : Windows: Skype for Windows Desktop version 8.106.0.212 : Windows 10 Windows 11: Skype for Windows 10 & 11 version 8.106.0. Skype Insider for iOS is available through Apple's TestFlight program. Skype Insider is available for Mac, Linux and Android. Join the Windows Insider Program to help us build the next Skype for Windows 11. I use Skype exclusively for chat with a particular contractor. Skype for Mac (OS 10.10) version 8.73.0.92 Skype for Mac (OS 10.9) version 8.49.0.49. Skype Insider is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. I'm wondering if others who use the Skype desktop app on the Mac have noticed it downloading ridiculous amounts of data and/or have any idea what it's downloading.
